I Bagus Nyoman Wiranatha (gusman) started practice pencak silat at the age of 8, the first tournament he entered and won was a regional tournament in 1981 at 30 - 33 kilo boys classification. In 1987 he won a senior high school competition at 54 - 58 kilo classification.

From 1988 - 1992 he moved to Yogyakarta for his education. After finishing his education he went back home to Bali and continued his training in pencak silat "Bakti Negara" and competing some competitions. In 1993 he fought the 13rd National Olympic Games at 50 - 55 kilo men classification, in 1996 fought the 14th National Olympic Games at 70 - 75 kilo men classification and at the same time he also fought the Vietnam Open Pencak Silat Competition at 70 - 75 kilo men classification and won successfully that competition.

After finishing his career as an athelete, since 1997 he has to this date actively work for the "Bakti Negara" management and entrusted as the sekretary of "Bakti Negara" Bali for periode of 2006 - 2011. Between his activities, he still will be found most often at the Wiyata Mandala Pusat "Bakti Negara", practices with other pendekars or pesilats from the overseas, doing some research on "Bakti Negara", and a book of the foundation techniques of "Bakti Negara" has been written by him during this time.
